ABOUT US

Pastor Vaughn Sr. was born and raised in Long Beach, CA, to Wallace Sr. and Marilyn Vaughn. As an identical twin alongside his brother, Daniel, he spent his early years in Southern California. At 16, Pastor Vaughn and Assistant Pastor Dan moved out on their own, navigating early independence with regular jobs, but also facing challenges with substance abuse. After being expelled from high school, they earned their GEDs.

In the late 1980s, the brothers relocated to Aurora, IL, where they were trained in construction trades - Pastor Vaughn as an electrician and Pastor Dan as a plumber. Arriving in Kansas City in 1990, both brothers accepted Christ, reigniting a faith they had first encountered in their youth at St. Mark's Baptist Church. They began working in construction cleanup until their skills in plumbing and electrical work were recognized, leading to on-site roles supporting other trades.

With guidance from God, they launched Vaughn Construction Maintenance in 1991. During this period, Pastor Dan was attending The Word Church, pastored by the inspiring Pastor Love Mason. Together they ministered with the community, focusing on sharing Jesus' love with the homeless.

In 1991, Pastor Vaughn met his wife, Shanisha, at The Word Church. Though their relationship took time to blossom, they eventually are close, marrying in 2009 after welcoming seven children together. In late 2009, Pastor Vaughn felt called to teach his sons the Book of Proverbs as they prepared for college. Starting in their basement, the group quickly grew as others joined, eventually leading to the formation of Sanctuary of Faith.

By December 2009, those attending began calling him "Pastor." As the congregation expanded from a small Thursday gathering to full Sunday services, Sanctuary of Faith was born. In January 2010, following a prompting from God, Pastor Vaughn and his wife began searching for a permanent location; eventually establishing their current place of worship at 2309 E 81st St, Kansas City, MO.

Sanctuary of Faith Church is a registered 501(c)(3) ministry that seeks to build a community passionately in love with Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve others. Their mission is to foster an up-close, personal, and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ for each person they meet.
